Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving
As I walked into the store my eyes were caught by the beatiful colors of Christmas...red and green, and golden all around. Wow...we're almost there!
I was looking for a little something for my niece and nephew, as I was going to be with them for Thanksgiving.
I found something that I thought would please them and headed for the cashier.
As I stood there, I looked around once again and saw people busy shopping and others getting ready to pay, like I was.
As I paid and thanked the young cashier, I smiled at her and said "Happy Thanksgiving". She smiled nicely back and responded "Happy Holiday to you"!
I left the store, leaving behind me the smell of candles, the Christmas lights and the reds and greens, with a persistent thought...a Holiday? This is not just a Holiday...This is Thanksgiving!
This is a time set for a specific, and very meaningful reason...to Give Thanks!
Give Thanks to whom thankfulness is due.
Give Thanks to God Almighty who has permitted us to live, to eat, to work, to have a family, to walk, and see, to love and have fun.
This is not just a holiday... it is a time when we meet with our loved ones and gather around the dinner table and recognize that God has allowed us to live to this day and hour for a divine purpose.
Thanksgiving is not just another holiday...it is a day when we Give Thanks...
When we show God and others the pleasant aroma that comes from a thankful heart.
When we thank God for sendind his son Jesus Christ; for eternal life in Heaven with Him; for all that He does for us each and every day; for His unending, unconditional love.
Today we thank God for allowing us to be alive and for His mercy which makes each new day possible.
Today we thank God for family, friends, forgiveness, opportunities, freedom, favor, and all His blessings that keep piling up as we go.
Thanksgiving is not just a "holiday", may I say it again...
It's a day to Give Thanks!
So, please don't say "Happy Holiday" !
Say "Happy Thanksgiving", because that's what today is all about.
And, before I forget...
Thank you for reading this!
